Speech therapy treatment is a prescribed remedy. It can be prescribed for voice, speech, language or swallowing disorders by doctors registered with health insurance funds – specialists such as neurologists, ENT doctors, phoniatrists, paediatricians, internists and many more, or by general practitioners. If the corresponding symptoms are present, the doctor can issue a speech therapy prescription after the initial diagnosis. Speech therapy treatment can then begin in the practice or, if necessary, as a home visit.
Depending on the speech therapy disorder and the doctor's discretion, 1-2 treatment sessions per week usually take place in the speech therapy practice or in the form of a home visit. The duration of a therapy session can be prescribed on the prescription from 30 minutes to 45 minutes to 60 minutes.
The basis for the prescription of remedies, possible therapy frequencies, therapy duration and prescription quantities, as well as for the respective disorders, is specifically set out in the individual remedy catalogue. The doctor can then prescribe remedies within these guidelines, tailored to the disorder and depending on the patient's needs.
After the initial consultation, during which you explain your reasons for seeking treatment, we will conduct a speech assessment and speech therapy diagnosis. Standardised speech therapy tests are carried out in order to obtain an accurate overview of the current status of the patient's voice, speech, language or swallowing function, for example, and to form the basis for targeted and efficient treatment.
A medical check-up is required at the end of a treatment sequence prescribed by the speech therapist. The doctor will receive a detailed report from the treating speech therapist. This report will present the results of the speech therapy diagnosis and the course of treatment, as well as any further possible courses of action.
We are happy to assist you at any time by telephone or email and would also be delighted to welcome you in person at one of our speech therapy practices in Lichtenberg North, Lichtenberg South, Pankow, Märkisches Viertel or Bernau near Berlin.
